1. I have endured the turns of fate for long,
And time has struggled against me with tribulations.

2. I associated with men in every region,
So the rash and thoughtless submitted to me.

3. What grieves my heart the most
Is a generous man whom time made thoughtless.

4. Sufficient is the sorrow for an ancient abode
Whose children are uncouth and unkind.

5. I have kept my eyes awake after closing them
Fearing they would be lost if I passed away.

6. Yet in the grace of the Guardian I find solace
With one like you whether I perish or remain.

7. And if your glory grows after my death
Let no misfortune interrupt your tranquility.

8. Seek knowledge, aspire to the heights in the land
And let not this seducer distract you.

9. If the Wise One withholds from you one day
Then submit to Him and your wont should be silence.

10. Say through knowledge my father was generous,
If asked who was your father, say "he passed away."

11. Both far and near will profess kinship with you
Through a knowledge no impostors can dispute.
