1. I forgot the favors I did for you
Why didn't I shed tears when they left?

2. Yet it was your fight, or were the tears welling up
From what saddened you, so the ashes hold fire

3. Oh companion cry for me, yet woe! and fiery youth
And my tears are all seas

4. But I am patient among the slender maidens
For with the slender maidens secrets are kept

5. Were it not for patience and restraint I would not have changed
Her customs of crying and glances

6. Does an eye weep while the meadows are companions
And one day it is stingy while the meadows are barren?

7. Long live the people who traveled away
And in the tenths of hearts they have homes

8. And tears of roses watered the cheek of a fawn
That blushes like roses when plucked

9. White, she smiles with brilliant ivory teeth
In which are pearls, buds, and light

10. With henna she dyed the date palms, and her mouth is not
The chosen bud and her legs arrows

11. She comes and goes while beauties are perfect
And her manner mannerly, dignity dignified

12. In her face a moon, and on her forehead magic
And between her eyelids an enchantress

13. Her cheek a rose, her lips carnations
And her stature tall, her breasts springtime

14. I did not forget her standing like a branch in
Her pure hand a wandering star

15. Above large jewels rise her breasts
Yet high as they are, they're small

16. Cork the glass, for in the glass is wine
Without its years enchantments would not appear

17. I visited her at dusk, and when the years appeared
This gray hair made darkness daylight

18. And I think my lovesickness at her arrival
Made me crazed, and what made the lover crazed is no disgrace

19. How to visit when its people have settled
In Minā, and I have no abode but a barren house

20. And the night's vigil and bitter tears
Come between me and her image

21. O lady of the porch, you are my role model
My tears and your tears kindled by fire

22. If the day of joy returns, my joy will return
And moons will rise between us

23. Sorrows will be gone, and bulbuls will sing
Bracelets will tinkle, and wings will flutter

24. And Muhiy al-Din will tune the strings of our joy
For with Muhiy al-Din I find glad tidings

25. A man who strove like al-Husayn, so the times
Oppressed him and misfortunes tried him

26. What of him, when he fulfilled his duties
From the fabrications of his envious slanderers?

27. If he returns, he returns not from the Exalted
Until light returns from radiance

28. He is better than one who waded into tumult, which is but
Floods and its soldiers mere clouds

29. And the middle of the opened conquests is rubble
With no revelry in it or fruits

30. And people's biggest concern is to pick fruits
Striking down any who took pride in that

31. O son of the spearheads, the swords, the lions
Swimmer of depths though they be seas

32. O clever, prudent, intelligent, truthful one
Not loose-tongued, excellent, mighty

33. Not every time is right for battle
Peace has its time, and tumult is a storm

34. But the youth's excuses remove
The cloud of blame, for the youth are wine-soaked

35. Valor is the liver of men, and often
It plays with men's minds like a ball

36. Do not fear any blamer's blame in God
For God and the Elect praise you

37. With your father the brave gloat, and you are a branch
That fulfilled the books through him

38. Lions beget lions, hidden like her
And a donkey's son, as you know, is a donkey

39. Fragrance makes the sweet known by its scent
And fruits hang on roots

40. Can one like you be blamed amid meteors?
You, the noble knight without flaws

41. It is you who extinguishes flames when called
And at your blood rains pour down

42. And if armies amass, they see you
A falcon, while birds fall before you

43. You see kings by your lionness as if they were
Sheep driven, and behind them a butcher

44. Why doesn't your time blame the friendship in which
There is neither helper nor supporters?

45. Leave the blame, for needs cut off his nose
Though uncut short, and nakedness is no shame

46. And for needs Muhammad left the Hima
So Hima wept for him as the cave delighted

47. God forgave him and renewed his kingdom
With Sufyan whom the Elect chose

48. You forget what time did to lords
Who plunged into vileness with distracted souls

49. White of face, the whiteness of their swords surrounds them
United with villains, or fragmented and scattered

50. For there sincere consciences reveal
No clamor, but resolve, honey and ruin

51. And it says to the melee: between me and you
Our lifespans are divided

52. So the sword's face smiles after its scowling
And turns gentle after its slashing

53. And it shows you God's victory in the charge of the Able One
At which the great army shakes

54. So leave the blame and condemn the time in which
The wicked spread their paths

55. And take to patience which the righteous prided themselves on
And the virtuous adorned themselves with

56. For valor is vile, while you in it are frowning
And patience is night, while you in it are daylight
