مساع غدت في الله تنضى ركابها

1. Her feet set out for God become purified
So her resolve succeeded and her returning

١. مَسَاعٍ غَدَتْ في اللّهِ تُنضَى رِكابُها
فَأَنجحَ مِنها عَزْمُها وإيابُها

2. A caller to yearning for the sacred rites
The dust of it a cure for eyes with rheum

٢. وَدَاعِيةٌ لِلشَّوْقِ نَحْوَ مَنَاسِكٍ
شِفَاءُ العُيُونِ الرُّمْدِ مِنها تُرابُها

3. You rode the panic in every dark pass
As if its vapors were abundant bounty on your palms

٣. رَكِبْتَ إليها الهَوْلَ في كُلِّ لُجَّةٍ
كَأَنَّ نَدا كَفَّيْكَ فَيْضاً عُبَابُها

4. It had veiled the face of the horizon as if
Its sides were joined and its clouds

٤. وَقَدْ حَجَبتْ وَجْهَ الفَضاءِ كَأَنَّما
جَوانبُها مَوْصُولةٌ وسَحَابُها

5. As if the green of the darkness outshone its sky
And its shooting stars flow upon it

٥. كَأَنَّ اخضْرارَ اللُّجّ ضَاهَى سَماءَهُ
وَجَارَى عَلَيْها الجَارِياتِ شِهابُها

6. As if the castles of ships had extended its atmosphere
With a wing by which its eagle seeks the sky

٦. كَأَنَّ قِلاعَ الفُلْكِ مَدَّتْ بِجوِّهِ
جَناحاً بهِ يَبْغي السَّماءَ عُقَابُها

7. So those ships of land cleave the emptiness
And no darkness unless its mirage appears

٧. فَتِلكَ وَسفْنُ البَرِّ تَخترِقُ الفَلا
ولا لُجَّ إلاّ أَنْ يَلوحَ سَرابُها

8. As if the Pleiades snatch prey from it
Its remoteness from it and estrangement saw goodness

٨. كَأَنَّ السُّرَى يَقتَاتُ مِنها غَوارِباً
بَرَى النَّيَّ مِنها نَأْيُها واغْتِرابُها

9. I augured good when it was overflowing with landmarks
For the signs of bliss are its kohl

٩. تَفاءَلْتُ خَيْراً وَهْيَ تَدْمَى مَناسِماً
بِأنَّ عَلاماتِ السُّرورِ خِضابُها

10. And the submerger of flags its wolf frightens
Its crow fears estrangement from it

١٠. وَطَامِسَةِ الأعلامِ يُوحِشُ ذِئبُها
بِهَا وَيَهابُ الإغْتِرابَ غُرَابُها

11. The hider of traces from every traveler
Who marches with the heart of an army and fears it

١١. مُمَوَّهَةِ الآثارِ عَنْ كُلِّ سَالِكٍ
يَسِيرُ بِقَلْبِ الجَيْشِ وَهْوَ يَهابُها

12. As if its gloom did not travel in it are its stars
Nor the veil of its sun by day drawn

١٢. كَأَنَّ الدُّجَى لَمْ يَسْرِ فيها نُجومُها
وَلا خُطَّ عَن شَمْسِ النّهارِ نِقابُها

13. So you did not stop until you attained what you sought of tombs
And you were given good news this Yathrib and its dwellings

١٣. فما زِلْتَ حتَّى نِلْتَ مارُمْتَ مِن قُباً
وَبُشِّرْتَ هذِي يَثرِبٌ وقِبابُها
