1. O breeze of the morning and wind of the south
Refresh my ardour with the scent of my beloved

2. For the spirit of the beloved is the spirit of my heart
My heart has no remedy but the beloved

3. And if you carry his scent from afar
Then waft it to me from nearby

4. Had it been but Joseph's scent that reached Ya'qub
Ya'qub's heart would not have ceased longing

5. Wondrous is the love that melts my heart
And its cure is in the scent of the meltor

6. Would that from my innermost, O gentle beloved
You quenched some of these flames

7. Or at the valley of farewell you delayed
The caravan, for a fleeting moment of departure

8. If from you my arm got a squeeze of farewell
I would attain the utmost of my hopes

9. And if on the saddle you were a crescent from me
When you oriented west at sunset

10. How gently did imagination increase my yearning
When it came true with its false promise!

11. In it, after its delusions, the caravan came
Wary of a blamer or watcher

12. I said "How could it fulfil while my lot
Was separation and longing was my lot?"

13. While in embrace passion had wrapped us
Lying together in a cloak of moth-eaten wool

14. And when in my vigilance I saw our union
Deceit stole from a mirage of lies

15. Where am I and Meyya that it poisoned
With acid poured by the cheating rabble?

16. A sun whose veil is the wings of night
When it rises, the thickets of dusk entwine it

17. It gazes amorously, coquettish from Bunah
And it gazes longingly from the eyes of a gentle gazelle

18. And but for the arrogance of the full moon
It has no tax, and lights up the darkness

19. It envied me to the extent that its eyes upon me
Would have given me away, had it remembered me

20. Or had it crept secretly to me, it would have thought
Every star on the horizon a spying eye

21. Blessed was a night I imagined from its down
It was scented with the scent of perfume

22. I said "This perfume is from a Kuthayb it protected"
The morning breeze brought it to us from the blowing wind

23. My companion said "The herald that came to us
Is from Karkh's enclosure, not Kuthayb's"

24. Informing about Muhammad, star of glory
Illness has left for the envious wretched one

25. O you who bring me this good news!
You are the excellent herald of my beloved's wellness

26. Had it been another spirit for my body I would have gifted
You that spirit, and little remains from gifts

27. You brought me a joy the like of which never
Before or after flowed in hearts

28. The days of yore carried sin before it
So it bore fruit through near forgiveness

29. And wondrous from eras is one who still
Invents every wondrous thing

30. That I see myself and see none but Him
Good deeds reaped from planting sins

31. A wonder! How the sinister gives birth to bliss
Its light pierced the gloom of calamities

32. It erased the days' gloom, so it became serene
No pallor in its sheer whiteness

33. Laughing at mankind's conceit familiarly
When yesterday it frowned severely

34. O vanquisher clad in mighty glory
Fear cannot defeat you

35. Seek refuge in the Guardian's protection
With promise and warning

36. In it the elite of pure honor reside
Springtide of the chaste at youth

37. Of fine origin, its branch in the abode of glory
Grows into noble, generous men

38. Bountiful, generous, when the enclosure
Shows its people cheerful-faced

39. He gave freely until delegations of gift-seekers came
Superfluous, though no superfluity in him

40. In an era that if the Blessed One spread its prosperity
It would not have spread blessing

41. Say to him "O Muhammad, you are righteous
To gain each wondrous merit"

42. You and Yemen shall not cease in the shade
Of a canopy erected from the Highest Heavens

43. For you is felicity wherever you are, its star never
Inclined away from you into setting

44. Bliss was complete when you were gladdened
By recovery of your most beloved brother

45. And your brother, a chamberpot of virtues
For the Highest, its overseer and watcher

46. Majid, his manners refined in
Glory and pride, the utmost of refinement

47. Of pleasant demeanor, face, tongue and spacious chest
So remain exalted as long as the sun rose

48. And declined on its horizon into setting
In sincere joy, sparkling eyes

49. And lasting bliss, a wholesome living
