1. Brandishing spears at the boasters,
They triumphed on the day of turmoil with valor.

2. Clad in iron shirts as though
They were clouds brimming with betrayal.

3. They kindled the wicks of lances in the night of turmoil,
A fire, and each warrior, a torch.

4. A saddle where souls are seen extinguishing others
In vain, while it extinguishes souls.

5. No difference between the lances and them
Except in naming the ramrods as spears.

6. With them, stars appeared in the darkness
Why don't they set with the stars in the morning?

7. Their spear-hafts were shaken, so they woke up
To fury and stained the bodies with wounds.

8. And the brave reaped victory from their tips
When they bent with their palms the curved swords.

9. No wonder they rested satisfied and became arrogant
For they had sipped the blood of horsemen to the full.
