1. My resolve has gone and I have begged Allah for help
While the vicissitudes of fate continue to trouble me

2. I have become dependent though I used to see myself
As able to provide for all with my efforts

3. My complaints have distracted me from seeking livelihood
And fancies have taken hold over me

4. It’s as if I see wealth with my conscience
But it has been denied to me in reality

5. The trait of incapacity has kept me from honor
And after glory led my reins astray

6. And being content with less has clothed me in humiliation
And cast over me the garb of disgrace

7. By my life! If I perish, it will be due to sorrow
Over me, my peers will be torn asunder

8. Regain your resolve and seek refuge from the failing
Of incapacity, one day should your feet slip

9. Do not fail in keeping silent the remembrance
Of humiliation in speech when the tongue speaks

10. Do not make holding worries your fortress
When you fear the savagery of the young ones

11. Be resourceful in the strategy you use to avoid
Your troubles and roll up what is not your sleeves

12. And avoid showing the kind of patience
That is noticed by people and fear prolonged absence

13. Many who have sought time persistently with great
Insistence have returned deprived

14. Time will repeat that as a lesson
And the two eras suffice as a warner for it
